Dreamwork's Rise of the Guardians Trailer

>> Saturday, March 31, 2012

So, the trailer's finally out for Dreamwork's Rise of the Guardians!
The animation looks stunning, but I wonder if the story will match up with the premise. I also wonder where Jack Frost is--he's not shown in the trailer and yet the only conception art I've seen of this movie involves him.
And I know that he's not the dark villain shown in the trailer, as the plot line clearly states that the villain is the bogeyman.
So, we'll see.
In the meantime, enjoy the trailer!

Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix Quotes II

>> Tuesday, March 27, 2012

"This is how it is--this is why you're not in the Order--you don't understand--there are things worth dying for!"

"Dumbledore trusts him," Hermione repeated. "And if we can't trust Dumbledore, we can't trust anyone."

"Then you have been plotting against the me!" he yelled.
"That's right," said Dumbledore cheerfully.

"Now you mention it," said Hermione happily, "d'you know...I think I'm feeling a bit...rebellious."

"Leave him alone," Lily repeated. She was looking at James with every sign of great dislike. "What's he done to you?"
"Well," said James, appearing to deliberate the point, "it's more the fact that he exists, if you know what I mean..."

"Messing up your hair because you think it looks cool to look like you've just got off your broomstick, showing off with that stupid Snitch, walking down corridors and hexing anyone who annoys you just because you can--I'm surprised your broomstick can get off the ground with that fat head on it. You make me SICK." She turned on her heel and hurried away.
"Evans!" James shouted after her, "Hey, EVANS!"
But she didn't look back.
"What is it with her?" said James, trying and failing to look as though this was a throwaway question of no real importance to him.
"Reading between the lines, I'd say she thinks you're a bit conceited, mate," said Sirius.

"You'll have to kill me," whispered Sirius.
"Undoubtedly I shall in the end," said the cold voice. "But you will fetch it for me first, Black...You think you have felt pain thus far? Think again...We have hours ahead of us and nobody to hear you scream..."

Let the pain stop, thought Harry. Let him kill us...End it, Dumbledore...Death is nothing compared to this...And I'll see Sirius again...

Harry could not stand this, he could not stand being Harry anymore...He had never felt more trapped inside his own head and body, never wished so intensely that he could be somebody--anybody--else...

"There is a room in the Department of Mysteries," interrupted Dumbledore, "that is kept locked at all times. It contains a force that is at once more wonderful and more terrible than death, than human intelligence, than forces of nature. It is also, perhaps, the most mysterious of the many subjects for study that reside there. It is the power held within that room that you possess in such quantities and which Voldemort has not at all. The power took you to save Sirius tonight. That power also saved you from possession by Voldemort, because he could not bear to reside in a body so full of the force he detests. In the end, it matters not that you could not close your mind. It was your heart that saved you."

He was--he had always been--a marked man. It was just that he had never really understood what that meant...

"I am not aware that it is any of your business what goes on in my house--"
"I expect what you're not aware of would fill several books, Dursley," growled Moody.

"Are you threatening me, sir?" he said, so loudly that passerby actually turned to stare.
"Yes, I am," said Mad-Eye, who seemed rather pleased that Uncle Vernon had grasped the fact so quickly.

Can't Wait

>> Thursday, March 22, 2012

Ah, 2012. I've been looking forward to you for a long time.
Let's celebrate The Year of The Hobbit
Let's review the movies coming out this year and my speculations:

The Hunger Games
Pros: Could be good.
Cons: I couldn't even get past the first chapter of the book. (dystopian novels are not my cup of tea.)

The Avengers
Pros: It could either be the coolest idea ever...
Cons: ...Or the dumbest.

Brave
Pros: It's Pixar and it's set in Scotland (!)
Cons: Cars 2 is still fresh in everybody's mind.

Dorothy of Oz
Pros: The slight possibility it might be good; Lovely animation.
Cons: The overwhelming posibility that it won't be so great.

Hotel Transylvania
Pros: Could be funny...I guess...
Cons: Adam Sandler; It will most likely be dumb.

Rise of the Guardians
Pros: It's Dreamworks, and since Kung Fu Panda and How to Train Your Dragon I've been more open to their movies.
Cons: It's Dreamworks.

Atlas Shrugged Part 2
Pros: Part 1 left me hanging!
Cons: Not really anything, as it's already an indie movie, so what has it got to lose?

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey
Pros: It's The Hobbit! Directed by Peter Jackson!
Cons: That they just might mess it up; The fact that Part 1 movies tend to drag for me.

Life of Pi
Pros: Could be a fun family adventure.
Cons: I tried to read the book...Never got past the first page.

Irish Reading

>> Saturday, March 17, 2012

Property of National Geographic
Need to curl up with a good book this St. Patrick's Day?
Believe it or not, but I've got a list of just a few of my favorites. (I know, I know. I'm addicted to lists.)

The Hounds of the Mórrígan by Pat O'Shea (The book to read on St. Paddy's Day)
Irish Fairy Tales by James Stephens (Be sure to get the version illustrated by Arthur Rackham)
Irish Fairy and Folk Tales by W.B. Yeats (In fact, anything by Yeats brings Ireland to life)
Titanic: The Long Night by Diane Hoh (The Titanic was built in Ireland, and many of the principal characters are Irish)

Heck, even these children's books are fantastic:

A Pot O' Gold by Kathleen Krull
Traditional Tales from Long, Long Ago by Philip Wilson
Tales from Celtic Lands by Caitlin Matthews
Lucy Dove by Janice Del Negro
Fiona's Luck by Teresa Bateman
